One of the college basketball season's first marquee games now appears to be among its first COVID-19 cancellations.

ESPN reported Monday that No. 18 Arizona State is pulling out of this week's 2K Empire Sports Classic, where the Sun Devils are scheduled to open the season Wednesday night against No. 2 Baylor at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Arizona State's reported withdrawal comes a day after Baylor coach Scott Drew announced his positive test for the virus. Drew tested positive Friday, but he said the rest of the Bears tested negative Friday and Sunday and would be retested Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The four-team season-opening tournament also features No. 3 Villanova against Boston College, with the winners scheduled to meet on Thanksgiving night.

Arizona State is entering its sixth season under head coach Bobby Hurley. The Sun Devils finished 20-11 last year, including an 11-7 mark in the Pac-12.
