Two-time WNBA scoring champion Brittney Griner signed a multiyear contract that will keep her with the Phoenix Mercury, the team said Friday.

Length of the deal wasn't announced, but The Arizona Republic reported she will earn the league supermax salary of $215,000.

After the 2019 season, Griner said she wanted to return to the Mercury.

"If I don't play here, I won't play anywhere (in the WNBA). I mean that," Griner said last September. "I'm not playing for any other organization. I'm a Phoenix Mercury until I'm done."

The Mercury felt the same way about the 29-year-old, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 draft and has made six All-Star teams.

"We've had the opportunity to watch B.G. transform into one of the most dominant players in the WNBA since we drafted her in 2013," Mercury general manager Jim Pitman said in a team statement. "In a Mercury uniform, she has become a WNBA Champion, Olympic gold medalist, a multiple time All-Star, a two-time scoring champion and has re-written the league's record books for blocked shots.

"A force on the court, her work in the Phoenix community is what makes her such a special person. We are thrilled to continue to watch her career grow here in Phoenix."

Griner, a 6-foot-9 center, has a career average of 17.3 points per game in 212 games (all starts). She also averages 7.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game.

She holds WNBA regular season records for blocks in a single game (11) and blocks in a season (129 in 2014).

Griner's re-signing is the latest move made this week by the Mercury.

On Tuesday, they traded forward DeWanna Bonner to the Connecticut Sun in exchange for three first-round draft picks, then Wednesday acquired All-Star guard Skylar Diggins-Smith from the Dallas Wings for the Nos. 5 and 7 picks in the 2020 WNBA Draft, plus Phoenix's first-round selection in 2021.
